LEAD and Forum for the Future, leading sustainability NGOs, have
teamed up to deliver a new international Masters programme in Leadership for Sustainable
Development. This programme is now accepting applicants.
In the UK , Forum for
the Future has been running an innovative Masters programme in Leadership for
Sustainable Development since 1996. Graduates of this course are now working as the new
generation of government advisors, policy consultants and think tank directors.
These types of leaders are needed at the national level in all
countries and the support of the Vodafone Group Foundation has made it possible to pilot
this unique style of learning for sustainable development internationally. Middlesex University validates the programme
as a Masters in Professional Studies (MProf.).
The pilot course will run for a year from October 2004 with twelve
students in total from four global regions: Southern Africa , China , Japan , Europe and
the CIS.
The first four months will be spent in the UK , then students will
return home to study and gain work experience, finally coming to Geneva to share their
learning with the group and put their experiences in the context of international policy.
Structured, intensive work-based learning placements in civil
society organisations, businesses and governments are central to the course. They
are supported by teaching that brings together leadership and sustainable development to
enable students to envision, then deliver a better future.
