Call for Applications
to the Leadership for Environment and Development Program
Year 2010, Cohort XV

 For the last 18 years the International Program ‛Leadership for Environment and Development‛ has created the network of professionals in more than 80 countries, unifying the representatives from governmental and non-governmental bodies, business, academic community and mass media.

The major goal of the program is to promote the implementation of the sustainable development concept and practices through the network and direct cooperation on specific projects. The world team of LEAD Alumni plays visible role in implementing the sustainable development concept at national and global levels due to the fact that many of them became ministers, members of parliaments, outstanding scientists and leaders of mass media

The LEAD program gives the basic knowledge and introduces to the best practices in the area of sustainable development making this world more safe and secure. It also provides the delivery of skills that new generation of leaders need – how to negotiate, to work effectively in one team, to expose their capacities in multiethnic and multicultural community.

The host institution for LEAD Program acting in the countries of CIS Region (LEAD CIS Program) is non-governmental, non-profit foundation – ‛Development and Environment Foundation‛, one of the distinguished nongovernmental organizations in the area of environment and sustainable development.

The LEAD Program was launched in 1992 in several countries of Asia , Africa , Latin America and ex-USSR. Now it comprises both regional programs ( Europe , Commonwealth of Independent States and three regional programs in Africa ) and national programs ( China , Brazil , Mexico , India , Indonesia , Japan , Canada and Pakistan ).

Annually the LEAD Program recruits on competitive basis new Associates from different professional background, aged up to 45, with visible leadership skills potential.

The format of the Program annual cycle includes two regional sessions in CIS countries, distant learning session, and one week long International graduation session in one of the member-countries of LEAD Program. The total time allocated for the sessions is up to 20 days. After graduated from regional session the participants receive the Certificates of LEAD-CIS, and after graduated from International session – the Certificates of LEAD International.

In 2008 the participants of 13 Cohort had sessions in Moscow region, Ukraine and Mexico. In 2009 the regional sessions took place in Moscow Region and Kazakhstan, the international session for Cohort 14 took place in China.

The sessions consists of modules providing the knowledge of sustainable development theory and practices, of key issues of environmental, energy and economic security, of major approaches at regional and international levels to achieve the secure and sustainable development. The program for modern leaders includes also the lectures of outstanding expert, games, discussions, meeting with leaders and field trips to the environmentally important sites

LEAD CIS calls for applications for the participation in the Program in the year 2010
(deadline is May 15, 2010)

The program for Year 2010 includes two regional sessions in CIS countries, the first will take place early June 2010, second one – late August 2010, and graduation International session in South Africa – late October.

The First Session (Orientation and basic learning session) will have as a subject the issues of sustainable development in the context of Russia and CIS countries prospects.

The Second session ( Field session) will have as a subject the issues of sustainable development at regional and local levels. It will take place in one of the regions of Russia or other country of CIS in accordance with the composition and preferences of participants of Cohort 15. Distant learning session will be devoted to the preparations to the international session in China , entitled as climate change and low-carbon economy.

International Graduation Session entitled as ‛Population, Climate Change and Development‛ will take place in Port Elizabeth (South Africa) late October 2010. All national and regional programs will be presented at International session.

The participation in the Program is the subject of participation fees (at your own expenses, at the expenses of your organization or by sponsors). Particularly, the Associates have to pay all transportation, accommodation and meals during the regional sessions.

LEAD International offers annually 10 stipends for LEAD CIS participants to cover all local expenses for the international graduation session, excluding travel expenses.

Total participation costs for participation in all regional and international sessions are estimated at the level of USD 3000. The participation in the international session is optional.
